It’s 6.00 am on a wet and misty but beautiful morning as we sit on the street-level terrace eating breakfast in Yangshuo before our cab arrives for the ride to the airport. Yangshuo was one place we were very reluctant to leave. It’s tranquility washed over you like a shroud and enveloped you to such a degree that you forget everything but the surrounding vista. The staff at the Ibis Hotel arranged a cab to run us to the airport for our flight to Guilin, and eventually to beautiful Yangshuo. I’m not sure if the taxi driver was on a promise or what, but he was certainly in a hurry to get to the airport. Read more..

Our cab arrived on time at the hotel to take us to Bejing Airport for our flight to Xi’an, about an hour’s journey southwest of Bejing. On arrival at Xi’an (the ancient capital of China) a tout approached us inside the terminal (we had targets painted on our backs) and offered to drive us into the city in a private car for the price of 180y ($30).
